After having my baby I realized how much pregnancy changes your body. My stomach was no longer sexy, my abs were not sculpted as they used to be, my boobs were changing sizes, and my bum had become flat. Altogether I felt very unattractive not to mention far from feminine. Of course, having lived in a hospital for a month while my son received the care he needed meant I grew used to cafeteria salads and lumpy soups… which did not help.
I went from feeling very confident and happy about my body to struggling with the stretch marks and other outcomes of becoming a mother. It was time to make a change!
Looking down on my sleeping child one evening encircled me with all the love of being a mother. This tiny boy had depended on my body to be it’s home for an extensive period and now continued to depend on me to survive, grow, and develop. I provided protection, food, warmth and most importantly love during his young development stages. How incredible! My body changed that significantly in order to provide so much for our little boy I now loved dearly.
Yes, I have stretch marks. Yes, my stomach may not look as sexy as it used to be. Nevertheless, it is a sign that I have carried and cared for a baby and now wear these traits as a triumphant trophy for the incredible journey my body has been on.
Making the Change
I decided not to let my thoughts crowd my achievement of motherhood. Instead, I dedicated myself to thinking positively about my body. This didn’t mean I had to put up with a saggy stomach or a flat bottom, it just meant that I would have to develop patience in the challenge of regaining my figure.
How did I do it? ‘Eat clean, train mean and get lean,’ became my motto and I stuck to it. I made sure that when Jude (my son) was napping I would do a workout in my living room. Many mothers choose to sleep which is great, but that won’t trim your tummy! At least allocate part of your day to some sort of workout; you’ll be amazed how much better you feel when your muscles feel worked and sore! My workouts consisted of Pilates DVDs, Zumba cardio parties, ab ripper x, and other routines I came up with or found online.
Below is a quick starter suggestion that only takes up a minor part of your day. It works wonders!
Make sure you keep our stomach tense while doing each of these exercises to flatten that bulge!
There really isn’t an excuse to not exercise! Even a brisk walk a day counts and makes a difference! I find myself feeling healthier and more awake after an energizing workout regardless of the intensity. Magically, my mood switches and I end up with more motherly patience in terms of my son – I then enjoy all the little things even more!
Once you get into it, you’ll find yourself doing butt clenches while vacuuming or washing up just to keep yourself feeling sexy and free from any sluggish looks.
